The partition of India and Pakistan has left its mark on the lives of many individuals, leaving behind a trail of trauma, loss, and displacement. The story of an elderly Muslim woman is just one example of the human cost of this event. She stands firmly in front of her ancestral home in Lahore, refusing to leave the only place she has ever known. Her roots run deep in that land, and she fears leaving behind a piece of herself. The memories of her childhood, her family, and her community are etched in every brick and stone of that house. She is determined to hold on to what she knows, even if it means standing alone.
